PhD Title: Cryptrographic Human Identification Protocols.
Anticipated Completion Date: : February, 2012PhD Abstract
Almost all security systems rely on a user authentication mechanism as a first layer of security. Nowadays, various authentication systems are in use. These range from simple password based systems to state-of-the-art biometrics based mechanisms. Some are augmented by two-factor or multi-factor authentication wherein the user has to demonstrate possession of a security card as well as a PIN number, for instance. It is highly desirable to construct authentication protocols that solely depend on human cognitive abilities. Such protocols are required to be cryptographically secure whereby the security is measured against computationally bounded adversaries in different threat models. Such protocols have been proposed in the literature, but they are few and far between. Moreover, they fall short in terms of security and usability. Our goal is to construct cryptographic human identification protocols with good security and usability.
